Few towns have the range of ground that Middletown does. The Bayshore sections along Route 36, including Port Monmouth, Belford and Leonardo, sit on low, sandy land near the bay and its creeks, where the water table is high and some streets flood. Climb south and east, though, and the land rises into the wooded hills around Navesink, Locust and Hartshorne Woods Park, some of the highest ground on the Jersey coast. Yes. The hills around Navesink, Locust and Chapel Hill produce some of the steepest drives in Monmouth County. On those, we compact the base in careful lifts, plan where runoff will exit so it does not scour the edges or flood the street end, and roll the asphalt in a sequence suited to the slope. Tight curves are hand-finished.
