Port Monmouth is a bayshore community inside Middletown Township, in northern Monmouth County. It is unincorporated, with its own post office name, and sits along Raritan Bay between Keansburg and Belford. The historic Seabrook-Wilson House, known locally as the Spy House, stands on the waterfront here. Dan The Paver provides asphalt driveway paving for Port Monmouth homes and parking lot paving for nearby businesses and shared properties.
Bayshore homes
Port Monmouth’s streets are mostly small to moderate lots with capes, ranches, bungalows and two-story homes. Many houses near the water have been raised, which leaves short, sloped driveways leading to parking under the home. Farther from the bay, the typical drive is a single or two-car strip beside the house.
These are hard-working driveways on small lots. We plan for tight spaces, protect landscaping and neighboring property, and build a solid base that can take daily traffic.
Low land near the bay and creeks
Port Monmouth is low and close to Raritan Bay, Pews Creek and Compton’s Creek, so soils are sandy and the water table is high. Storm surges have flooded parts of the community, and flood control work has been built along the shore. Thin or poorly built driveways in this setting break down quickly.
When we rebuild a drive here, we excavate to stable ground, place and compact an aggregate base and set the elevation so water drains off the surface quickly. Avoiding low spots on the driveway is especially important on flat bayshore lots.
Nearby commercial lots
Route 36 runs just south of Port Monmouth, with shopping centers, offices, restaurants and service businesses. We mill, repair the base and repave lots along that corridor and for houses of worship and community buildings nearby.
We also serve neighboring Belford and the rest of the Monmouth County service area.
Port Monmouth paving questions
Our Port Monmouth house was raised after storm flooding. Can you pave the new, higher approach?
Yes. Many bayshore homes now have parking beneath or beside a raised house, which changes the driveway's height and slope. We rebuild the base to suit the new elevation, compact it carefully and pitch the surface so runoff moves away from the foundation and the parking area instead of pooling against the house.
Does the Port Monmouth flood protection work change anything for a driveway job?
It may affect drainage near your property and any work close to dunes, levees or protected areas. Before scheduling, check with the Middletown Township construction and zoning office about approvals your lot needs. We plan the driveway grade around existing drainage patterns so water still flows where the system expects it.
