Asphalt Driveway & Parking Lot Paving in Hazlet, NJ

Asphalt driveways and parking lots in Hazlet: excavation, base, grading and paving by a family-owned, licensed crew. Free estimates.

Hazlet is a suburban township in northern Monmouth County, set between Holmdel, Aberdeen, Keyport and the Raritan Bay towns. It is a busy place for both of our services: hundreds of mid-century homes with aging asphalt driveways, and a long run of shopping centers and commercial properties along Route 35 and Route 36 that need asphalt parking lots kept in good shape. Dan The Paver works on both sides of that mix every season.

Hazlet driveways: ranches, capes and split-levels

Most of Hazlet’s neighborhoods filled in during the postwar building boom, so the typical home is a ranch, cape or split-level on a modest suburban lot, often on a curving street or cul-de-sac. The original driveways were usually one car wide. Over the years many families have added cars and asked us to widen the drive or add a parking pad beside it.

By now most of those first-generation driveways have been repaved at least once. When the cracking runs all the way through and the edges are crumbling, another thin layer on top will not last. That is when we recommend removing the old asphalt, correcting the base and installing a new surface through our asphalt driveway paving service. If the base is still solid, milling off the top layer and repaving is often the smarter path.

The ground under northern Monmouth

Hazlet’s soil changes from street to street. Toward the bay side you find heavier, clay-rich ground and a higher water table; farther south toward Holmdel the land rises and drains better. Clay holds water and expands when wet, which is a big reason driveways crack here. For that reason we:

  • Dig out soft clay where the subgrade is unstable.
  • Use a thicker compacted stone base on wet sites.
  • Grade so water leaves the surface instead of soaking in at the edges.

Parking lots along the highways

Route 35 and Route 36 carry heavy traffic through Hazlet, and the plazas, restaurants, medical offices and service businesses along them see constant turning, braking and delivery trucks. Those lots wear fastest at entrances, drive lanes and dumpster pads. Our parking lot paving work covers milling, base repair and full repaving, and we also maintain lots for HOAs and apartment communities in town.

Permits and aprons

Driveway aprons and curb cuts in Hazlet fall under township rules, and highway-frontage properties may also have state road considerations. Talk to the Hazlet construction and zoning office before changing an apron or adding paved area.

We often pair Hazlet jobs with work in Holmdel and Keyport. See all of our service towns on the Monmouth County paving page.

Hazlet paving questions

Our Hazlet split-level has a driveway that slopes down toward the garage. How do you stop water from running into it?

On a downhill driveway we look at the whole path the water takes. We can reshape the grade so the surface crowns or cross-slopes toward the lawn, and we make sure the transition at the garage sits slightly lower than the door. Where the slope is steep, a properly compacted base and a dense, well-rolled asphalt surface keep runoff from undercutting the edges.

We manage a retail property off Route 35. Can you repave the lot without shutting the stores down?

Yes. On busy Route 35 and Route 36 lots we usually split the job into sections, mill and repave one area while customers use another, and keep at least one entrance open throughout. Work can be scheduled early in the morning or on slower days. We walk the lot with you first to set the phasing and plan traffic flow.
