Asphalt Driveway & Parking Lot Paving in Old Bridge, NJ

Asphalt driveways and parking lots in Old Bridge: excavation, base, grading and paving by a family-owned, licensed crew. Free estimates.

Old Bridge is one of the biggest townships in Middlesex County, and it stretches from the Raritan Bay shoreline at Laurence Harbor all the way down to the Monmouth County line. Dan The Paver installs and replaces asphalt driveways for homeowners across the township and handles asphalt parking lots for the shopping centers, offices and associations that line its busy highways. If you need a new surface, a mill-and-repave or a full tear-out, we can help.

Neighborhoods, roads and what driveways look like here

Old Bridge is really a collection of sections that grew at different times. Laurence Harbor and the area near Cheesequake State Park have older bayside homes on modest lots. Madison Park, Browntown and the neighborhoods off Route 516 filled in with ranches, split-levels and bi-levels on side streets and cul-de-sacs. Farther south, the newer subdivisions near the Marlboro border have wider colonials with two-car and three-car garages.

That range means driveways vary a lot. A bayside cape may have a single-car drive that needs a clean edge along a lawn. A split-level often has a short, steep run into a garage under the living space, where pitch and drainage matter. Newer homes usually want a wider apron and a turnaround. For all of them we offer asphalt driveway paving and, where the old drive is sound underneath, milling and repaving.

Sandy ground, low spots and building the base

Most of Old Bridge sits on the sandy soils of the inner coastal plain. Sand drains well, which is good news for a driveway, but it shifts if it is not confined and compacted. Near Cheesequake Creek, the bay and the wetter pockets along local brooks, the water table rises after heavy rain and the ground can stay soft.

Our approach is the same every time even if the details change. We dig out failed asphalt and weak subgrade, set the grade so water runs off instead of pooling at the garage, install and roll a compacted aggregate base, and then place hot asphalt at a thickness matched to the traffic. A family car and an occasional delivery van need less than a lot that sees box trucks.

Commercial lots on Route 9 and Route 18

Route 9 and Route 18 carry a steady line of strip centers, restaurants, medical offices, banks and service businesses through Old Bridge. Those lots take heavy turning traffic at the entrances and standing water at low corners. Our parking lot paving work covers milling worn areas, rebuilding failed base, regrading low spots toward the drains and paving in stages. Townhouse associations and churches in the township call us for the same work on a smaller scale.

Permits and curb cuts

Before changing the width of a driveway or the apron at the street, check with the Old Bridge construction and zoning offices. They can tell you what applies to curb cuts, apron work and impervious coverage on your lot.

Old Bridge is part of our Middlesex County service area, and we work regularly in neighboring Sayreville and East Brunswick as well.

Old Bridge paving questions

My house is in Laurence Harbor, close to the bay. Does that change how a driveway gets built?

It can. Homes near Raritan Bay and the Cheesequake marshes often sit on sandy ground with water close to the surface after storms. We check how fast the base area drains, keep the finished grade pitched away from the foundation and toward the street, and avoid digging deeper than the water table allows. Where the subgrade stays soft, we remove it and replace it with compacted aggregate before any asphalt goes down.

We manage a strip center along Route 9 in Old Bridge. Can you pave in sections so stores stay open?

Yes. Highway-front lots on Route 9 and Route 18 depend on customers getting in and out all day, so we plan the work in phases. One half of the lot or one row of spaces is milled and paved while the rest stays open, and entrances are swapped so there is always a way in. We map the phases with you before the first day.
