Asphalt Driveway & Parking Lot Paving in Aberdeen, NJ

Asphalt driveways and parking lots in Aberdeen: excavation, base, grading and paving by a family-owned, licensed crew. Free estimates.

Aberdeen Township sits on the Raritan Bay end of Monmouth County, wrapped around Matawan Borough and stretching from the bayfront at Cliffwood Beach down past the Route 34 corridor. Dan The Paver builds asphalt driveways for Aberdeen homeowners and asphalt parking lots for the shopping plazas, apartment communities and offices that line its main roads. Every job starts the same way: we look at how the property drains, dig out what is failing, and build a base that will hold up on this mix of bayside sand and inland ground.

Three sections, three kinds of driveway

Aberdeen is really a handful of neighborhoods that grew at different times. Strathmore, the large planned development built by Levitt and Sons, is full of modest ranches, capes and split-levels on regular lots with short, straight drives. Many of those driveways are original or have had new asphalt laid on top more than once, so the surface now sits high against the garage and sidewalk. In those cases we recommend milling or full removal rather than another layer.

Cliffwood and Cliffwood Beach have a more mixed look: older bungalows, newer infill homes and lots that slope gently toward the bay. Farther south, the neighborhoods near Route 34 and Lloyd Road have larger lots and two-car drives that often need widening as families add vehicles. Our driveway widening and extension work blends new width into the old so it reads as one surface.

What is under an Aberdeen driveway

Most of the township sits on sandy coastal plain soil, which drains well when it is dry and compacted. The trouble spots are near Matawan Creek, the bay and the low ground around them, where the water table rises after heavy rain. On those lots we excavate deeper, remove organic or saturated material, and install a thicker compacted aggregate base before any asphalt goes down. Grading matters as much as thickness here: a driveway pitched even slightly the wrong way will send runoff into a garage or basement. For a full residential job we lay a properly compacted base and asphalt at a thickness suited to cars and the occasional delivery truck. Our asphalt driveway paving page explains the process step by step.

Parking lots along Route 34 and Route 35

The commercial side of Aberdeen is concentrated on Route 34, Route 35 and the roads near the Aberdeen-Matawan train station, with retail centers, medical and professional offices, garden-apartment complexes and houses of worship. For those owners and property managers we handle asphalt parking lot paving, including milling worn sections, rebuilding failed base under drive lanes and repaving in phases so tenants keep access.

Before work begins

Driveway aprons and curb cuts in Aberdeen tie into township or county roads, so call the township’s construction and zoning office before you widen a drive or add a second entrance. They can also tell you how much impervious coverage your lot allows. Aberdeen paving questions

Our Strathmore house still has its original narrow driveway. Can it be widened for two cars?

Usually, yes. Many Strathmore lots were laid out with a single-car drive beside the house, and there is often room on the lawn side to add width. We cut back the turf, excavate to the same depth as the existing drive, build matching base, and pave the whole surface so there is no seam down the middle. Check Aberdeen's zoning office first, since added pavement counts toward lot coverage.

We live near the bay in Cliffwood Beach. Does the low ground change how you build the driveway?

It does. Close to Raritan Bay the water table sits higher and the sandy soil can stay damp after storms. We set the finished grade so water sheds toward the street or lawn instead of the garage, keep the base well above any soft layer, and avoid leaving low spots where water can sit and soften the edges over winter.
