Wanamassa streets and homes
Wanamassa is mostly single-family homes on suburban lots: capes, ranches, colonials and split-levels, many on gently sloping streets that run down toward the lake. Driveways are commonly short to mid-length runs to an attached or detached garage, with some properties sharing tight side yards. A good number of these driveways are original or have been repaired piecemeal many times.

We build a compacted aggregate base in layers, grade carefully so water leaves the driveway at the street, and reinforce aprons where the driveway meets the road.

Do I deal with Ocean Township for permits if I live in Wanamassa?
Yes. Wanamassa is a neighborhood and Census-designated place inside Ocean Township, not its own municipality. Questions about driveway aprons, curb cuts or impervious coverage go to Ocean Township's construction and zoning office. The Wanamassa name is part of your address and identity, but the township makes the rules.
My Wanamassa home is close to Deal Lake. Does that change how my driveway should be built?
It can. Streets that slope toward Deal Lake carry runoff downhill, and lower lots near the water often have a higher water table. We make sure the base is fully compacted, avoid leaving soft fill under the asphalt, and pitch the surface so water reaches the street instead of the garage or the yard of the house below.
