Ocean Township is a municipality in Monmouth County, not in Ocean County, despite the name. It sits just inland from the shore towns of Deal, Allenhurst and Asbury Park and includes the communities of Oakhurst, Wanamassa and Wayside. Dan The Paver handles asphalt driveway paving for Ocean Township homes and parking lot paving for shopping centers, offices and associations along its busy corridors.
Neighborhood by neighborhood
The township has a wide range of homes. Wanamassa, along Deal Lake, has older houses on smaller lots, many with single-car or narrow two-car drives. Oakhurst has leafy streets of ranches, split-levels and colonials. Wayside, on the western side near the Garden State Parkway, has larger lots, newer subdivisions and longer driveways with side-load garages and turnarounds.
That variety means no single approach fits every driveway. We look at lot size, slope, the condition of the existing base and how the drive is used before recommending full replacement or milling and repaving.
Soils near the lakes and streams
Ocean Township is on the coastal plain, so most soils are sandy and drain well. Near Deal Lake, Whale Pond Brook and other low-lying areas, the water table is higher and the ground stays wetter. In those spots a weak base breaks down faster. We excavate to firm ground, install a compacted aggregate base and set the grade so water drains off and away.
On sloped lots, especially in parts of Wayside, we also watch for runoff that can undercut driveway edges, and we shape the surface to move water onto the lawn instead.
Commercial pavement along Route 35 and Route 66
Route 35 is one of the busiest retail corridors in Monmouth County, and much of it runs through Ocean Township, with shopping centers, restaurants, car dealers and offices. Route 66 adds more businesses near the Asbury Park border. Medical offices, houses of worship, schools and condo complexes round out the shared lots. We mill, rebuild failed base and repave these properties, focusing on drainage at entrances and catch basins. Large sites may also benefit from milling before a new surface.

Ocean Township paving questions
Is Ocean Township the same as Ocean County?
No. Ocean Township is a municipality in Monmouth County, near Asbury Park, Eatontown and West Long Branch. Ocean County is a separate county farther south. We serve both, but this page is about the township. If your address says Oakhurst, Wanamassa or Wayside, you are most likely in Ocean Township, and its construction office handles your driveway questions.
Our Wanamassa home is near Deal Lake. Does that affect a driveway replacement?
It can. Properties on lower ground near Deal Lake often have damper soil and a higher water table than homes farther inland. We check the existing base and soil during excavation, go deeper where the ground is soft and pitch the new driveway carefully so water does not collect at the garage or near the foundation.
