Interlaken is a tiny, almost entirely residential borough in Monmouth County, wrapped on most sides by the winding arms of Deal Lake and bordered by Asbury Park, Allenhurst, Loch Arbour and Ocean Township. A lakeside neighborhood of older homes
Interlaken was laid out as a planned residential community, and it still reads that way: tree-lined streets, curving roads that follow the lake shore, and a mix of older colonials, Tudors and other classic homes on comfortable lots. There is no downtown and very little through traffic.
Driveways here are typically single-lane drives leading back to a garage, often with a gentle curve and old shade trees close by. Many were paved long ago and have been repaired or topped more than once. Soil near the lake
The ground here is sandy shore soil, but properties that slope down to Deal Lake can hold water near the bottom of the yard. Tree roots are another common issue. Our base work focuses on:
- Digging out root mats and organic material under the old driveway.
- Compacting the subgrade and stone base in layers.
- Grading so runoff spreads into lawn areas instead of channeling toward the lake or the house.

Interlaken paving questions
Our Interlaken lot backs onto Deal Lake. Do we need to worry about drainage when replacing the driveway?
Yes. Lakefront yards slope toward the water and the ground near the shoreline can stay damp. We make sure runoff from the new asphalt goes into the lawn or toward the street rather than washing straight down the bank, and we firm up any soft subgrade before the base goes in. That protects both the driveway and the lake edge.
Interlaken has no business district. Do you still handle parking lot work nearby?
