Oakhurst is a residential community inside Ocean Township, in Monmouth County, not to be confused with Ocean County to the south. It is unincorporated, with its own ZIP code and post office name, and it makes up much of the township’s western side. Leafy streets and two-car drives
Oakhurst lives up to its name. Many streets are lined with mature oaks and maples, and the neighborhoods are mostly single-family homes from the postwar era onward, including ranches, split-levels, colonials and expanded capes. Lots are moderate in size, and most homes have a two-car driveway leading to an attached garage. Joe Palaia Park, the township’s large recreation park, is in Oakhurst.

Oakhurst soil is generally sandy and drains decently, with some areas holding more clay and moisture, especially near streams and low spots. Route 35 carries the bulk of the commercial activity through Ocean Township, with shopping centers, restaurants, car dealers and offices.
