Neptune Township is a large, varied municipality in central coastal Monmouth County. It includes the Victorian seaside community of Ocean Grove, the waterfront neighborhood of Shark River Hills, busy commercial corridors along Route 33, Route 35 and Route 66, and quiet inland subdivisions. Dan The Paver handles asphalt driveway paving and replacement for Neptune homes and parking lot paving for the township’s businesses, medical offices and associations.
A township of many neighborhoods
Neptune’s housing changes from one end to the other. In Ocean Grove, lots are tiny and many homes have no driveway at all. Shark River Hills has hilly streets with ranches, capes and two-story homes overlooking the river. West of the Garden State Parkway and along the Route 33 corridor, neighborhoods have more room, and houses typically have two-car drives with attached garages.
Each part of town calls for its own approach. A sloped drive in Shark River Hills needs careful grading and good edges. A mid-century subdivision drive may only need a fresh surface if the base is still strong, which is when milling and repaving through our asphalt driveway paving service makes sense.
Underneath the surface
Most of Neptune sits on sandy coastal plain soil that drains well when it is properly compacted. Near the Shark River, Wesley Lake and other low areas, the water table rises and soil holds moisture longer. A driveway built on a thin base in those spots will settle and crack, often near the street where water collects.
When we rebuild a driveway in Neptune, we excavate to stable ground, install and compact an aggregate base and set the grade so water runs off the surface and away from the foundation. Asphalt thickness depends on how the drive is used; homes with work vans or trailers need a heavier section.
Commercial and institutional pavement
Neptune is a regional hub for health care, anchored by Jersey Shore University Medical Center, and has many offices, shopping centers and service businesses along Route 33, Route 35 and Route 66. Garden apartment complexes, condo communities and houses of worship add more shared parking. We mill, repair the base and repave these lots, fixing drainage problems at catch basins and entrances where most failures start.
Permits and approvals
Contact the Neptune Township construction and zoning office about driveway aprons, curb cuts and impervious coverage limits before work starts. Properties inside Ocean Grove’s historic district may have additional review.

Neptune Township paving questions
We live in Shark River Hills. Why does our driveway keep cracking near the street?
Shark River Hills has sloping streets and some low ground near the river, so water often runs across the apron and sits at the curb line. Over time it softens the base right where tires turn hardest. The fix is usually excavating that area, rebuilding the base deeper and adjusting the pitch so runoff drains to the gutter instead of across the drive.
Do you pave lots for medical offices near the hospital in Neptune?
Yes. Medical and professional offices around Jersey Shore University Medical Center and along Route 33 and Route 66 are the kind of properties we serve. These lots need to stay usable for patients, so we often plan work in phases or after hours and keep accessible routes open where we can.
