Spotswood is a small borough in southern Middlesex County, centered on DeVoe Lake and Manalapan Brook and surrounded mostly by East Brunswick and Monroe. It has a quiet residential feel with a Main Street running through its center. Dan The Paver installs and replaces asphalt driveways for Spotswood homeowners and paves asphalt parking lots for the businesses, churches and associations here.
Homes around the lake and along Main Street
Spotswood’s housing is mostly single-family: ranches, capes and split-levels on modest suburban lots, with some larger homes on wooded parcels and a few townhouse communities. Most driveways are straight and fairly short, running from the street to an attached or detached garage. Some older homes near the center have narrow side drives, while lots along curving roads may have a slight bend or slope.
A short drive can still fail in many ways: tree roots lifting the edges, holes at the apron, low spots that hold water by the garage door. Our asphalt driveway paving work fixes the cause, not just the surface. Where an extra parking space is needed, we can add it with a driveway extension.
Sand, brook and base
Spotswood sits on the sandy soils of the inner coastal plain. Sand drains well but moves under load if it is loose, so compaction is the key step. The low ground along Manalapan Brook and around DeVoe Lake is the exception, with damper soil and a water table that can rise after rain.
Our process starts by removing old asphalt and checking the subgrade. Soft areas are dug out and replaced. A compacted aggregate base goes down next, shaped to the final slope so water drains away from the house. Asphalt is then placed and rolled to a thickness suited to everyday cars or heavier use.
Small commercial lots
The borough’s businesses cluster along Main Street and the roads that connect to neighboring towns: small retail plazas, offices, restaurants and service shops. Churches and community buildings also have lots of their own. Our parking lot paving service covers milling, base repair, regrading and repaving, and we plan the work so the lot can stay partly open.
Before work begins
Ask the Spotswood construction and zoning offices about rules for driveway aprons, curb cuts and impervious coverage before you widen or add paving.

Spotswood paving questions
We live near DeVoe Lake in Spotswood. Are lakeside lots harder to pave?
They need extra attention to water. Lots near DeVoe Lake and Manalapan Brook can have softer, wetter subgrade than the rest of the borough. We test the ground as we excavate, remove anything that will not compact, and build a firm aggregate base. Grading is planned so runoff moves toward the street or a safe outlet and does not collect along the driveway edge.
Can an older Spotswood ranch driveway be milled and repaved instead of replaced?
Sometimes. If the old drive is cracked on the surface but has no sinking, heaving or soft spots, milling off the worn top and repaving can give it many more years. If the base has failed, new asphalt will just copy the cracks. We look at the whole drive and tell you which option makes sense before you decide.
