Oceanport is a riverside borough in eastern Monmouth County, bounded by the Shrewsbury River and its creeks. It is home to Monmouth Park racetrack and part of the former Fort Monmouth, now being redeveloped. Dan The Paver provides asphalt driveway paving for Oceanport homes and parking lot paving for businesses and shared properties throughout the borough.
Waterfront sections and inland streets
Oceanport has distinct neighborhoods. Port Au Peck and Gooseneck Point reach out toward the river, with homes on lots close to the water. Inland streets near Oceanport Avenue have older capes, colonials and ranches on moderate lots, while newer homes are mixed in where older ones were replaced or raised.
Driveways vary just as much. Waterfront houses often have short drives or parking under raised homes. Inland, most have two-car drives to attached or detached garages. A lot of them are original drives that have worn thin, cracked and settled near the street.
Low ground and a high water table
Much of Oceanport sits only a few feet above the river. Soils are mostly sandy, which drains well, but the water table rises close to the surface near the creeks and the Shrewsbury River. Storm tides can push water into low streets.
That makes the base the most important part of an Oceanport driveway. We excavate to stable ground, build a compacted aggregate base and set the elevation and slope carefully so water drains off the surface quickly. Where the base is still firm and only the top has worn, milling and repaving may be enough.
Commercial and shared lots
Monmouth Park and the Fort Monmouth redevelopment draw businesses and offices into Oceanport, and the borough also has houses of worship, schools and smaller commercial buildings. These properties need lots that drain properly and hold up to steady traffic. We mill, rebuild failed base sections and repave to keep them in good shape.

Oceanport paving questions
We live in Port Au Peck near the water. Will a new driveway hold up to tidal flooding?
No surface is flood-proof, but a properly built asphalt driveway survives occasional high water far better than one on a thin base. In waterfront sections like Port Au Peck and Gooseneck Point, we build a compacted aggregate base, avoid creating low spots and pitch the drive so water leaves quickly once the tide drops.
Can you pave parking for a business near Monmouth Park or the Fort Monmouth redevelopment area?
We pave commercial parking lots throughout Oceanport, including offices and businesses near the racetrack and around the former Fort Monmouth land. These sites often have their own drainage plans and site requirements, so we work from those plans and coordinate with the property owner or manager before milling or paving.
