Asphalt Driveway & Parking Lot Paving in Edison, NJ

Asphalt driveways and parking lots in Edison: excavation, base, grading and paving by a family-owned, licensed crew. Free estimates.

Edison is one of the largest townships in Middlesex County and the northern edge of the area we serve, a place where Route 1, Route 27, Interstate 287 and the New Jersey Turnpike all meet. Dan The Paver installs and replaces asphalt driveways for Edison homeowners and repaves asphalt parking lots for the township’s busy retail, office and industrial properties.

Sections with their own character

Edison never had a single downtown. Instead it grew around sections such as Menlo Park, home of the Thomas Edison Center and Menlo Park Mall; Oak Tree, with its busy Oak Tree Road business district; Clara Barton, Stelton, Bonhamtown and North Edison. Housing ranges from small capes and ranches on tight lots in the older sections to larger colonials on cul-de-sacs in North Edison.

Driveways follow that pattern. Older homes often have short, single-car drives, sometimes squeezed between houses. Newer neighborhoods have double-wide driveways and wider aprons. Many Edison families want to widen a drive to fit more cars, which our driveway widening work addresses.

Clay, shale and drainage

Unlike the sandy shore towns we serve, much of Edison sits on heavier ground. The northern part of town has soils derived from red shale, and the area toward the Raritan River and Raritan Center has clay deposits. Clay holds water, swells and shrinks, and pushes up on asphalt that lacks a proper base.

On Edison jobs we dig out more of the clay or soft soil near the surface, compact the subgrade, place a well-compacted aggregate base and grade the drive so water runs off instead of soaking in. Freeze-thaw cycles hit clay lots hardest, so the base and drainage are where a lasting driveway starts.

Retail, office and industrial lots

Edison’s commercial side is huge. Route 1 and Route 27 are lined with shopping centers, car dealers and restaurants; Oak Tree Road is packed with storefronts; and Raritan Center is one of the largest business parks in the region. These lots see constant traffic and heavy trucks. We handle commercial paving including milling, base repair and repaving for drive aisles, parking fields and loading areas.

Permit pointer

Edison may require approval for new curb cuts, wider aprons and added impervious area. Check with the Edison Township construction or zoning office before you begin.

We also pave across the Raritan in Sayreville and to the south in East Brunswick. See every town on the Middlesex County paving page.

Edison paving questions

Is Edison inside your service area? It is pretty far north for a shore-based company.

Yes. Our Middlesex County coverage runs from Old Bridge, Sayreville, South Amboy and Edison south. Edison is on that line, so driveways and parking lots anywhere in the township, from Menlo Park and Oak Tree to Clara Barton and Raritan Center, are in range.

My Edison yard has heavy, sticky soil. Does that change how you build the driveway?

It can. Parts of Edison have clay-rich soil that holds water and moves with freezing and thawing. On those lots we dig out more of the clay near the surface, compact what remains, and place a thicker aggregate base so the asphalt is not resting on wet clay. Good grading keeps water from soaking in at the edges.
