Asphalt Driveway & Parking Lot Paving in Avon-by-the-Sea, NJ

Asphalt driveways and parking lots in Avon-by-the-Sea: excavation, base, grading and paving by a family-owned, licensed crew. Free estimates.

Avon-by-the-Sea is a small, walkable Monmouth County borough between Sylvan Lake and the Shark River with a boardwalk on its ocean side. Most homes here are older, many are summer rentals or year-round family houses, and driveways are short and narrow. Dan The Paver replaces and repaves asphalt driveways in Avon and builds asphalt parking lots for the borough’s shops, churches and multi-unit buildings.

How Avon properties are laid out

Avon’s streets follow a tidy grid running from Main Street (Route 71) east to Ocean Avenue. Homes include Victorians with wide porches, shingled cottages and newer rebuilds on the same footprint. Lots are compact, so the driveway is usually a single car width beside the house, leading to a small garage or a parking area in the back. A few properties have no curb cut at all.

Common jobs include replacing an old drive that has settled into the sand, rebuilding a broken apron at the sidewalk, and adding width where coverage allows. Milling off the worn top and repaving works when the base underneath is still solid. If it is not, we remove the drive and build a new one.

Building on beach sand

Avon’s soil is classic shore sand: it drains well but needs careful compaction or it shifts under weight. The borough’s water table is shallow, especially on the southern blocks near the Shark River and close to Sylvan Lake. We excavate the old surface and any soft material, then lay and compact aggregate base in lifts. Finally we grade so water moves away from the house and off the drive. Edges are firmly finished so sand does not wash out from under them. You can read about the full process on our asphalt driveway paving page.

Main Street and seasonal lots

The businesses along Main Street, the borough’s beach facilities, churches and small apartment buildings all need parking that holds up to a busy summer. We offer asphalt parking lot paving for those properties. That covers drainage and edge fixes, milling and full repaving, scheduled outside the peak season whenever we can.

Before we start

Avon has small lots and strict coverage limits. Check with the borough’s construction and zoning office before you widen a drive, add parking or move a curb cut. Our neighboring Belmar and Bradley Beach pages cover the towns on either side, and the Monmouth County hub lists every shore town we serve.

Avon-by-the-Sea paving questions

Our Avon house is a few blocks from the Shark River. Why does water sit at the end of our driveway?

The southern part of Avon is low and close to the river and inlet, so groundwater rises quickly after storms and high tides. If the old drive was built without enough pitch, water collects at the low corner and softens the base. We regrade to send water to the street or lawn, and we build up the base at that end so the asphalt is not sitting in damp sand.

We rent out our Avon home in summer. When is the best time to replace the driveway?

Spring and fall are ideal for Avon rentals. Temperatures are right for asphalt, the streets are quieter, and you avoid disrupting tenants or summer parking. A typical residential replacement takes only a short time on site, but fresh asphalt needs a few days before heavy use, so leave a gap before the first renters arrive.
