Asphalt Driveway & Parking Lot Paving in Plainsboro, NJ

Asphalt driveways and parking lots in Plainsboro: excavation, base, grading and paving by a family-owned, licensed crew. Free estimates.

Plainsboro Township, in the southwest corner of Middlesex County along the Route 1 corridor, has a different mix of property than most of our towns. Dan The Paver handles asphalt driveways for the single-family homes and townhouses here and paves asphalt parking lots for the apartment communities, associations, offices and medical buildings that make up so much of the township.

A township of complexes, campuses and newer homes

Plainsboro grew quickly as a planned community. Large rental and condo complexes such as Hunters Glen, Fox Run, Deer Creek and Quail Ridge sit off Plainsboro Road and Scudders Mill Road, each with long parking rows, carports and internal drives. Office campuses line College Road and the Princeton Forrestal Center area, and Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center brings a large medical campus to the township.

Single-family homes and townhouses fill in the sections between, with short drives and attached garages. For those owners we provide asphalt driveway paving, including full replacement when an old drive has heaved or split.

Parking courts and internal drives

For a property manager, the paved area is often the biggest exposed surface on the property. Carport rows hold puddles. Dumpster pads and loading spots get crushed by trucks. Speed bumps and entry drives wear first. Our parking lot paving service is built for that kind of site: we mill worn asphalt, cut out failed sections, repair the base where it has pumped, fix low areas so water reaches the inlets, and repave in phases that keep residents parked. Where the base is still sound, milling the old surface and repaving can renew a lot before small failures spread.

What the soil means for the base

Plainsboro is flat, and flat ground is harder to drain than most people expect. The township sits near the line between the sandy coastal plain and the siltier, clay-leaning soils to the north and west, and the land along the Millstone River and around Plainsboro Preserve stays damp. Standing water under asphalt is what breaks it down.

So grading comes first. We confirm a fall toward the street, swale or storm inlet, compact the subgrade, and install an aggregate base thick enough to bridge softer spots. Asphalt thickness is set by use: lighter for a townhouse drive, heavier in fire lanes and truck routes.

Before you start

Paving work in an association usually needs board approval, and changes to driveway width or street openings can involve the township. Check with the Plainsboro construction and zoning offices about aprons, curb cuts and impervious coverage.

Plainsboro paving questions

Our Plainsboro townhouse association has several aging parking courts. Can the work be split over more than one season?

Yes. Many associations in Plainsboro budget paving over a few years. We walk every court with the board or property manager, rank them by condition, and propose an order that starts with the worst failures. Each phase is scheduled so residents get notice, cars are moved in advance and a court is closed only for the time needed to mill, pave and let the new asphalt cool.

The ground near the Millstone River side of town feels wet. Will a new driveway hold up there?

It will if the base is built for it. Parts of Plainsboro near the Millstone River, Cranbury Brook and the preserve lands have heavier soil that holds water. We remove soft material, set a firm aggregate base and grade the surface so runoff leaves the driveway quickly. Good drainage is what keeps the asphalt from cracking and settling over the years.
