Lakewood is one of the fastest-growing towns in New Jersey, and its streets show it, with new homes, duplexes, schools and shopping going up beside older neighborhoods around Lake Carasaljo. Dan The Paver serves this Ocean County township with asphalt driveways for homeowners and builders, and asphalt parking lots for the commercial, institutional and multifamily properties that keep expanding here.
Homes that need room to park
Lakewood’s housing ranges from older single-family homes near downtown and the lake to new construction, attached homes and duplexes on smaller lots throughout the township. Parking is a constant concern. Many owners want wider driveways, double-width aprons or a second parking pad, and multi-family properties need surfaces that handle several cars coming and going every day.
Older drives in the neighborhoods off Route 88, Route 9 and County Line Road were often built with a thin base. When they crack and sink, we remove them, rebuild the base and pave fresh. For newer homes where the builder drive is already failing, we look closely at what is underneath before quoting.
Sandy soil, lakes and the Metedeconk
Lakewood lies on sandy coastal plain soil at the edge of the Pinelands, with Lake Carasaljo, Lake Shenandoah and the South Branch of the Metedeconk River running through town. Away from the water, sand drains quickly but needs firm compaction and a solid aggregate base to carry weight. Near the lakes and the river, the ground can stay wetter and the water table sits higher.
We adjust excavation depth, base thickness and grading to match. Every Lakewood driveway we pave gets a deliberate slope so water leaves the surface; standing water is what breaks down asphalt fastest.
Lots for schools, stores and offices
Lakewood has a large number of schools, houses of worship and community buildings, plus shopping along Route 9 and Route 70 and businesses in the Lakewood Industrial Park. These lots see heavy pickup and drop-off traffic, buses and deliveries. We handle milling, base repair and repaving, and we can phase the work around school hours or business schedules.
Before you widen
Lakewood regulates driveways, curb cuts and lot coverage. Call the Lakewood Township construction or zoning office before changing the size or location of a drive.
We also work next door in Jackson and Brick, and the full list is on our Ocean County paving page.
Lakewood paving questions
We have a duplex in Lakewood with two families parking on one driveway. Can it be widened?
Often, yes. Many Lakewood homes and duplexes need more parking than the original drive provides. We can extend the base and asphalt to add width, but the township controls how much of a lot can be paved and where curb cuts go. Check with the Lakewood zoning office first, then we build to the approved layout.
Our school's parking lot in the Lakewood Industrial Park area floods at one end. Can repaving fix it?
Repaving alone will not fix a drainage problem; regrading will. We survey the existing slopes, find where water is collecting, and correct the grade toward existing inlets during milling and repaving. Where the base has failed from standing water, we dig it out and rebuild it before new asphalt goes down.
